Sins Or No Sins

I realized lately through conversation with friends (lunch time in Mc-D) that people have different views on what is sinful and what is not. Some friends are staunch believers on the religion views on sins, meaning they view sin as a black and white thing. If for an example, the religion says that it's sinful to have pre-marital sex, then it is SINFUL to have sex outside marriage. On the other hand, I also have friends who are on the other side of the fence, who says that it's not wrong for this kind of thing to happen, so long as you are not hurting or causing trouble to anyone. Then, there are those who are in the middle, who simply don't care. For them, religion just imposes rules and regulations and all these are man-made laws, designed to keep things in the balance.

Which brings me to the next question? What really constitutes sin, then? Can religion be the barometer to which all things be measured to? Or is conscience enough to help us determine what is wrong and what is right?

I'd really like to think that the Creator of this world (indeed I do believe there is a Creator, but that is another post for another day) is not confined to rules and laws. Indeed, I think it goes beyond that. But what? The answer perhaps lies with what makes everything in the world exist: Goodness. Imagine this, if goodness doesn't exist, then do you think that mankind will survive this long. We would have been at each other's throat from the very first whistle, trying to survive and outlast each other. Rules dictates how you should live your life in a good way, not harming others and certainly yourself. I was an opponent to the notion that you have to play by the rules every single time. We had a relatively heated exchange the other day about playing it straight from the book of rules and I guessed I did pissed a few of my friends regarding this, luckily no one got a black eye on this one. There are bad rules and good rules. Interpret that by yourself, as I am not going to start patronising anyone on what should and what should not be.

I suppose at the end of the day, it all boils down to what you want to believe. Some don't even believe in sin, so what the heck, they just go on whacking and living the moments in their lives. Some live for the moment, and some just have no moments at all.

For me, life is just to short to dwell on 'sinful' things. Look for better things instead, and you will find good. And where there is goodness, surely there will be no sin and evil, correcto?

  1. There will always be uncertainty...confusion of which is bad and which is good...but sometimes i think we shuld not think too much of trying to find some kind of proof to everthing because we won't find it...i think that is how it was supposed to be...that there are things that unexplainable...or else what wud be the diff between us n the great Creator, yes? hehehe
